What's It Gonna Be ...

Looking at an old e-mail, I see the signature line " Web surfing is for people with time, web building is for the insane. I'm part of the insane group." Oh, the thought resonates!

Writing these articles every month serves as catharsis in some respects, but as I try to meet the self-imposed deadline for them, I wonder why. I sometimes censor myself, because I don't want to offend anyone ... and then I think "Who reads them anyway? Who would be offended?" But still, this is a community site, even if it is a shadow of its former self and I do value the members ... so out comes my nasty blue pencil and the words are slashed left and right.

As I have played with ideas for re-design, I think of many different directions this community could take. Or maybe the whole site needs a new focus and community should not be a part of it?

I'm beginning to feel that the old saying that "you can never go home again" might just apply to us. We have struggled through system crashes, four different forum software systems and changes in web hosting. In the meantime members have found other ways to communicate with one another. Also, we seem to be at very different places in our lives. It may be the the whole Xisti experiment was doomed to failure. Perhaps the unique community that was our original meeting place can never be recreated and the very success of the community we were part of has made us grow beyond our need for it.

So I am left with the question .... what's it gonna be?

Footnote: This article was written over a year ago and never posted. The questions that cause it to be written remain. The answers are still hidden. Whatever it will be will depend on my courage as I seek to redefine the site into something I can find believable, honest and worthy.
