Holidaze

There are so many holiday celebrations on the calendar that it's hard to keep track. Rather than try to list them all, I refer you to an article from our archives: 'Tis The Season.

I cringe every time I hear the shopping days being counted down on television or radio. I am so not ready for the holidays. I am just barely moved into my new apartment and don't even have all my art on the walls.

Still, I don't want to become the family grinch, so I am bending my mind to decorations, presents and family dinners.

I'm making a lot of my presents, which is a Good Thing for my budget. But I will admit that it won't take long before I am heartily sick of knitting and sewing. It's a good thing I only have these spasms every few years. One year I made mittens for all the nieces and nephews. By Christmas I had a permanent cramp in my hand and it was a few years before I attempted a crafty Christmas. (Not to mention the year I made candy wreaths for everyone! It seemed like such a good idea but it was definitely not a budget saver. Do you have any idea how many hard candies it takes to make a 7" wreath? That's probably why I have three or four wreath frames left in my craft box.)

I wonder if the actual reception will be as much fun as the anticipation I feel while I cut and stitch and plot and plan? Probably not, but I'm trying to remember all the bromides I ever heard to cushion me against any disappointment. After all, it is better to give than receive, right? And it *is* the thought that counts.

Ah, well ... 'tis the season. And if I don't go mad before I get everything done that will be a major accomplishment. At least I didn't decide to do the homemade jellies, breads and cookies this year. Next time I give a gift of food, you can be sure it will come from Hickory Farms!

And somewhere in here, I need to find myself a little peace and goodwill. Good thing there's 24 more shopping days 'til Christmas!
